I Adore You...

:: [ i adore you ] ::

With two babes so close in age, it goes without saying some days are more challenging than others. Regardless, at the end of the day once they are sleeping soundly in their cribs, I think to myself, "Wow, that day flew," & I ask "When does it slow down? .... How can I do better tomorrow? ... Do they know how much they are loved?"

It's the quick snap of some photos (like this one) that remind me how lucky I am to have been blessed with two of the happiest little fellas God could create. No matter what challenges I face through out the day, I sleep knowing I did my best ( somedays better than others) and I have encouraged these two souls to have kind hearts, fierce minds, & brave spirits as best I know how. We find joy is the most simple of days; laugh at anything and everything; & love as fiercely as humanly possible. No matter what storms we weather, they know they have their momma as their number one- always.... I lay it down here ---> good luck to their {very} future special someone's. .

Today marks a big day, an exciting day in our household as well as many others. School is starting for my little one & it's hard to not feel emotional. Excitement that they are growing into tiny humans; anxiety over watching them watch you leave; hope that their teachers will love them like their own; pride that they are your perfectly imperfect baby, regardless of their age.

In the midst of these happier and exciting moments, I am here to remind us of an emotion we as Americans never want to feel again : fear. For today 16 years ago, we as Americans were stripped of our blissful innocence and felt the wrath of true hate. Every September 11th, we remember the raw emotion felt and seen across our nation.

Make today the day you change. Make today the day you do instead of plan. Be kind to everyone. Be accepting of different than yourself. Judge less. Thank your veterans, first responders, everyday heroes & their families. Without them, where would we be?

We are all in this together.

A New Perspective

About last night :: welcoming a new brother-in-law to the family was so so much fun! We partied the night away but this particular wedding opened my eyes a little more to my world.

Weddings are always fun. Exhausting but fun. It doesn't matter your relationship to the bride and groom, they are fun. You get to primp, eat good food, & dance you pants off. So when my sister-in-law invited my son, I was hesitant to bring him along. Hesitant to bring my toddler to a wedding because that would mean I would have to stay "mom" all night rather than have a date night to myself & my husband.

But last night the hand that normally holds my drink, held my son's hand. And it was AWESOME.

He danced to every.single.song.... not even his French fries could pull him off the dance floor. His smile was seen everywhere. And high fives were given away like candy at a Halloween parade. But my favorite thing he gave last night was selfishly, he gave me new perspective.

As we readied ourselves in the morning, I couldn't help but see myself in photos & say, " Wow you look like a mom." My body shape is different, my hair still thin (thanks hormones), and I spend far less time working those trouble areas. For a quick minute I saw my younger adult self lost behind the fact I wasn't 22 & carefree anymore. It dawned on me that I am, in fact, a mom and am so incredibly happy and proud of my accomplishments. I have mom dance moves (I have mastered the side step clap), I think every move my son makes is more adorable than the last, I even enjoy the fact I woke up at my normal time not feeling the party bug (if ya catch my drift) today.

So on the day of my husbands 35th birthday, I celebrate not only him, but the new & accepted perspective he helped open my eyes to.... and for our incredible little family he has given me.

    the most basic suburban .....

    For starters..... Basic. The term can be perceived to mean many different things. To me, it's; Simple. At the core, I am the same as many of you tuning in (major thank you for being here)!

    I've become a natural living & wellness advocate working to do better everyday for my family & would love to help you do the same!

    I take advantage of the perfect imperfections each day brings, while trying to raise good, kind babies.

    So, if you ever catch yourself wondering what a simple suburban life is like, you can find me, The Basic Suburban, chasing my tiny humans, talking to my houseplants, dreaming of the next DIY & trying to smile & laugh my way through the day.
